NU’s School of Medicine (NUSOM) is the first school in Kazakhstan’s history to offer all of its programs in English, following a U.S.-style curriculum by collaborating with expert medical clinicians and biomedical scientists recruited from the global healthcare network. NUSOM was created to enhance the quality of medical education in the Republic of Kazakhstan and generate a transformative health care system that meets the challenges of health care reform in Kazakhstan. NUSOM’s programs offer state-of-the-art technologies that transform our students into expert medical professionals. Candidates for the School of Medicine undergo a rigorous application process and are accepted at the discretion of the NUSOM admissions department.

NUSOM offers three specialized bachelor programs for students seeking a career in the medical field.
Bachelor in Nursing
NU’s Bachelor in Nursing is a full-time two-year program. Students can continue a career after two years (four semesters) of completed coursework.
Undergraduate Medical Program (6 years)
The program has been specifically designed for talented and dedicated high school graduates who are ready to complete a rigorous and demanding course of study to become highly qualified physicians.
NU School of Medicine offers four master’s programs designed to meet the highest international standards in medical training in specialized career pathways:
Pharmacology and Toxicology, Master
This program specializes in studying the effects of drugs, poisons, chemicals and environmental toxins on human health.
Public Health, Master
The program develops student understanding of research and assessment methods essential to effective managerial and analytical skills.
Molecular Medicine, Master of Science
The Master in Molecular Medicine (MMM) program is the only Molecular Medicine program available in Kazakhstan.
Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Master
The curriculum includes topics such as human body functions, metabolism and nutrition, and exercise and fitness.
Doctor of Medicine
The Doctor of Medicine program provided by the NU School of Medicine (NUSOM) provides students with not only the foundation to continue with post-graduate medical training, but the competencies to practice medicine.
Master of Science in Nursing
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program represents premiere educational pathways designed to empower nursing professionals to shape the future and transform healthcare in Kazakhstan.

NU SoM’s General Surgery Residency is a five-year program designed to train doctors of medicine in general surgery by focusing the program on basic and clinical research that enhances patient care expertise and surgical practice.

Pediatrics, Residency Program
The Residency Program in Pediatrics is a three-year program designed for medical doctors who want to become general pediatricians.
Internal Medicine, Residency Program
The Residency Program in Internal Medicine is a three-year residency program designed for medical doctors to work as general internists in hospitals or general practitioner settings.
Family Medicine, Residency Program
The Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year full-time program, aimed at training family physicians.
Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Residency Program
The NU SoM Anesthesiology and Critical Care Residency is a 4-year program to train medical doctors to become Anesthesiologists/Critical care specialists who are able to work in the hospital or outpatient settings.
Orthopaedics and traumatology, residency
The residency program in orthopaedics and traumatology is a five-year program aiming to prepare a fully educated, independent, enterprising, ethically responsible, creative, interested in scientific innovations
Radiology, residency
The general aim of the program is to train a specialist-radiologist who is able to provide qualified service within the competence and is able to apply the acquired knowledge, and skills.
Urology, Residency Program
The general aim of the program is to train a specialist urologist who is able to provide qualified service within the competence and is able to apply the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities.
Anatomic Pathology, Residency Program
Pathology is the branch of medicine that deals with understanding the causes and processes of disease. It does this by looking at the changes in the tissues of the body, blood, and other body fluids.
Psychiatry, Residency Program
This program is designed to provide medical doctors with fundamental training in general psychiatry to become psychiatrists who are able to work in hospital or outpatient settings.
Residency in Pediatric Surgery
The Pediatric Surgery Residency Program is a 5-year program that includes step-by-step study and mastery of all aspects of pediatric surgical care at the outpatient and inpatient levels.

The NU SOM Neurology residency program is a 4-year program aimed at training medical doctors to become neurologist that will be able to work in the hospital setting and any healthcare organizations.
