How Science and Innovation Foster Social Entrepreneurship

Nazarbayev University (NU) hosted the Eurasian Kurultai on Social Entrepreneurs, bringing together social entrepreneurs, leaders, and experts from across Eurasia to exchange experiences and showcase successful social entrepreneurship cases.

Sansyzbay Zholdasbayev, Deputy Chair of the NU Social Development Fund, in his welcoming speech highlighted the Fund’s activities and current support programs.

The keynote speaker at Kurultai 2024 was Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate, who read a welcoming letter to participants from the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The NU Social Development Fund organized a thematic session, “Science and Innovation: A Path to Social Change,” where participants discussed the value of science and innovation in the social field. They explored practical applications of these solutions to improve the lives of people with special needs through real-world case studies presented by active social entrepreneurs. Medet Mukushev, a PhD student, introduced the projects AI-Ym, an online Kazakh sign language dictionary, and PECS for Autism, an online platform for children with autism. Aliya Sabitova, a master’s graduate in Inclusive Education, shared her experience with the Association for the Development of an Inclusive Society. 

Nurlykhan Aljanova, Deputy Director of the NURCE Entrepreneurship Research Center, spoke about NURCE’s role in advancing entrepreneurship and innovation in Kazakhstan. The event concluded with networking sessions where participants and speakers exchanged experiences and discussed potential collaboration opportunities to further social entrepreneurship.
