Almost 150 children participated in the Second National Games of Champions that were organized by the University Medical Center (UMC) in collaboration with the PHOENIX Charitable Foundation, reported Khabar 24.

The games were specially organized for patients who have been in the remission stage of oncological diseases for more than a year or had organ transplantation. The UMC calls these children champions, hence the name of the Games.

Reportedly, more than 4,400 children have cancer in Kazakhstan today, the majority of whom have been affected by acute leukemia. The country uses many innovative treatment methods, including allogeneic bone marrow transplantation conducted by the UMC since 2012.

The UMC’s Mother and Child Center also has performed 146 kidney and 15 liver transplants in children since 2012, writes DKNews.kz

The Games of Champions were primarily aimed at supporting children who were faced with a serious illness and their parents. The event raised awareness of various diseases and allowed parents and children to find their communities.

Children competed in such disciplines as "Asyk atu", "Togyzkumalak", running (60m), table tennis, shooting (10m air rifle), mini-football, chess (Swiss system), bowling, badminton, and swimming. Boxer Serik Sapiyev and other famous athletes and performers came to support the children as judges and coaches.

The University Medical Center is a part of the integrated academic healthcare system of NU. The purpose of the system is to promote the healthcare of Kazakhstan through the integration of clinical, educational and research activities.
