On March 23, 2017, during the first official visit to Kazakhstan, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited NU.

During the visit, the President of Uzbekistan got acquainted with the master plan for the development of the NU, with laboratories of genomics and personalized medicine, materials science, a chemical laboratory in which students conduct research on scientific projects.
Vice President for Student Affairs and International Cooperation, Kadisha Dairova, presented the students' living conditions, academic results and specifics of the training process at NU.

During the visit to the NU "Astana Business Campus" innovation cluster, which is currently actively developing around the educational institution, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with research projects. Astana Business Campus Innovation Cluster unites foreign and Kazakhstan companies, high technology small and medium business in one place. The commercialization office, the business incubator, the technopark, as well as research centers and schools of the NU work for the development of the Astana Business Campus innovative environment.

The President of Uzbekistan was also shown the library of NU, which has a unique subscription in Kazakhstan to foreign databases and platforms for scientific and educational information. The NU Library provides access to about 210,000 e-books, more than 101,000 scientific journals, 228 collections of databases (including test access, open sources of scientific and educational information, individual network collections for university subjects taught in the university).
At present, 3,683 students are studying at NU, of whom 715 are on the Foundation program, 2,306 bachelor students, 580 master students and 82 are doing their PhD. Three schools provide undergraduate programs: School of Engineering, School of Science and Technology, and School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The same schools, as well as the Graduate School of Business, Graduate School of Public Policy, Graduate School of Education, School of Medicine, School of Mining and Geosciences of NU offer graduate programs. PhD programs are present at the School of Engineering and Graduate School of Education.
