Share this articleIn a landmark move, NU has launched its first Research Excellence Awards, marking a significant milestone in recognizing and promoting academic research within the institution.
The university also celebrated the winners of the 8th NU Teaching Awards, highlighting exceptional educational contributions. In his congratulatory letter to the awardees, Provost Ilesanmi Adesida remarked, “Your hard work, dedication, and talent inspire us all and bring great honour to our institution.” The newly established NU Faculty Research Excellence Awards acknowledges outstanding research across four distinct categories: NU Emerging Scholar, NU Career Excellence, NU Outstanding Scholar, and NU UNSDG Excellence.
The winners of the inaugural Research Excellence Awards are as follows:
NU Emerging Scholar: Zhanibek Arynov (Graduate School of Public Policy) and Aishuak Konarov (School of Engineering and Digital Sciences).
NU Outstanding Scholar: Shumaila Yousafzai (Graduate School of Education) and Abduzhappar Gaipov (School of Medicine).
NU Career Excellence: Gerrit Post (Graduate School of Business) and Zhumabay Bakenov (School of Engineering and Digital Sciences).
NU UNSDG Excellence: Woojin Lee (School of Engineering and Digital Sciences).
Simultaneously, the NU Teaching Awards recognized excellence in university teaching across nine categories, rewarding faculty, teaching fellows, instructors, teaching assistants, and graduate teaching assistants. The NU Learning and Teaching Committee evaluates nominations from various schools each year to determine the winners.
The distinguished recipients of the 8th NU Teaching Awards are:
Innovative Teaching: Srinivasa Bolla (School of Medicine) and Emil Bayramov (School of Mining and Geosciences).
Inclusive Teaching: Katherine Erdman (School of Sciences and Humanities).
Internationalization: Paula Dupuy (School of Sciences and Humanities).
Integrating Research and Teaching - The Sofiya An Award: Jonas Cruz (School of Medicine).
Sharing NU Experience: Tohid Alizadeh, Behrouz Maham, and Aibek Niyetkaliyev (School of Engineering and Digital Sciences).
Master Teacher: Shazim Memon (School of Engineering and Digital Sciences).
Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for Teaching Excellence: Nikolay Mikhailov (School of Humanities and Social Sciences).
Leadership in Teaching: Mir Afzal (Graduate School of Education).
Additionally, this year saw the promotion of several faculty members. Notably, Byron Crape from the School of Medicine was promoted to Associate Professor of Practice.
