Over a five-day period from 4 December – 8 December 2017, NU Library in cooperation with the Educational Excellence Center hosted the second School of Library Technologies event – a week-long seminar aimed at professional development of staff in academic libraries. The main program subject was “Modern Academic Library: management, resources, technologies, and forms of service” combined a series of lectures and workshops:

Apart from NU librarians, other speakers including NU Graduate School of Education and Educational Excellence Center professors as well as the regional representatives of the world leading publishing organizations such as Elsevier and EBSCO gave their lectures.
The program participants were given a great opportunity to learn the modern trends in Kazakhstani education, global tendencies in academic libraries development, international assessment standards for academic libraries performance, and creation of inclusive environment at NU.
In addition, NU librarians reported on the important directions in library development such as subscriptions to electronic resources, shared their experience of creating an institutional repository, and discussed the nuances in processes like searching impact-indicators, choosing a journal for publication, data management, as well as role and duties of subject librarians.
On the last day, all participants took a test to assess the knowledge and skills they acquired during the seminars. By the end of the program they received certificates confirming their successful completion of the courses at the School of Library Technologies.
It is important to note that the School of Library Technologies is a training center, the purpose of which is to advance leadership and professional skills of Kazakhstani academic library managers and experts, as well as to motivate them for innovative ideas and incorporating new technologies and latest practices at their workplaces. Starting from 2012, NU Library and Academic Libraries Association joined hands to organize a series of seminars and meetings for professional development and sharing experience. Seminars and trainings on the hottest topics are hosted at NU online as well as on-site at other libraries. One of the remarkable events, Library Connect, is held within the frames of EHELF program, the annual Eurasian Higher Education Leaders Forum.
