NU hosted the 11th Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference

The 2-day conference was attended by 23 invited speakers from Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA.

NU hosted the 11th Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference (EALC 2022), dedicated to the topic “Open Access to Knowledge and Libraries: Achievements and Trends”, which was organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Association of Libraries of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and NU Library last 27-28 October at Astana, Kazakhstan.

The 2-day conference was attended by 23 invited speakers from Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA. The conference was attended by more than 100 participants from such countries as Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and USA.

The conference highlighted the role of academic libraries in promoting open access to scientific information. In addition, topics on available data, open educational resources and open-access technologies were discussed. In this digital age, developing repositories of scientific publications and repositories of research data is crucial.

Notable keynote speakers were invited to this year’s conference to share their insights and experiences on the topic. Mr. Matthew Voigts (Netherlands), IFLA Policy and Research Officer, gave a presentation on copyright and open access policy issues.

Ms. Paola Corti, Community Manager for Open Education SPARC Europe (Italy) shared the importance of developing barrier-free open access to educational resources.

Lastly, Mr.Raymond Uzwyshyn, director of collections and digital services at the Texas State University Library, presented the experience of creating digital collections and big data repositories.

As an introductory meeting, a roundtable discussion was also held where recommendations were considered for further interactions between representatives of academic libraries of universities in Central Asia to improve the higher education system and conduct scientific research.
