Share this articleThe book, dedicated to the history of the Kazakh Steppe and the Southern Urals, has received prestigious international recognition.
The American Library Association (ALA) has included Voices from the Steppe: A Thematic Sourcebook of the Kazakh Steppe and the South Urals in the list of the best historical materials of the past two years. The authors of the publication are Meiramgul Kussainova, an Assistant Professor at Nazarbayev University, and her former colleague, Danielle Ross, an Associate Professor at Utah State University.
The book is a collection of 101 sources shedding light on key aspects of the life and culture of steppe peoples from the 16th century to the mid-20th century. It includes historical chronicles, songs, poems, letters, memoirs, religious-legal documents, and official acts that reveal the politics, economy, spiritual life, gender aspects, and everyday culture of the region.
The ALA's recognition highlights Voices from the Voices from the Steppe's scholarly significance and its contribution to the study of Central Asia on an international level. This list comprises outstanding reference publications, bibliographies, and collections of primary sources that make a substantial contribution to historical science. The book's inclusion among the best historical materials reaffirms the high level of research conducted by NU faculty and enhances the university's influence in the academic community.
