English language proficiency tests:
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - is a standardized test for determining the level of English language proficiency. IELTS consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. This website offers exam prep materials, free practice tests and useful videos. There is also a feature for taking a practice progress test, which evaluates the progress in preparation. The cost of the progress check test is about 48 dollars (~21,000 tenges). The cost of the IELTS exam in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan is about 160 dollars (~70,000 tenges). If you are applying to NU please choose “Academic IELTS” and take it in person at the Test Center (not remotely).
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) — is a standardized test for determining the level of knowledge of the English language, the formats of which are TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) and TOEFL PBT (Paper-based Test). TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL PDT results are not considered in the competition to NU. TOEFL consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. TOEFL iBT costs about 270 dollars (~117,000 tenges). The website offers exam prep materials, free practice tests, and useful videos. If you are applying to NU please take it in person at the Test Center (not remotely).
Linguaskill is a convenient and automated test and provides the ability to quickly and accurately determine the level of English proficiency. The test is powered by artificial intelligence. Linguaskill consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The cost is approximately 150 dollars (~65,000 tenges). The website offers exam format preparatory materials, free practice tests and videos. If you are applying to NU please take the test in person at the Test Center (not remotely).
Comprehensive exams:
SAT - (Scholastic Assessment Test) is an American general education exam used to assess the knowledge of applicants entering United States universities. It is taken by school graduates for admission to undergraduate programs at universities and colleges. The cost of the exam is 120 dollars (~55000 tenges). The SAT has three sections: Mathematics, Text Analysis, and Writing. If you are applying to NU, the written part is not required. The website offers exam prep materials, free practice tests and videos. NU applies the Superscoring for SAT scores.
ACT (American College Testing) is a standardized test in the United States that students take after graduation to assess their knowledge and to apply to higher education institutions. The cost of the exam is 150-166.5 dollars (~65000-72000 tenge). The ACT consists of 4 main sections (English, Math, Reading, Science) and an additional essay writing section. The website offers exam format prep materials, free practice tests and videos. NU applies the Superscoring for ACT scores.
NUET (NU Entrance Test) is a test that determines the level of academic preparation for studying in the Foundation and undergraduate programs at NU. Assesses knowledge in the subjects "Mathematics" and "Critical thinking and problem-solving skills". The website offers exam prep materials, free practice tests and videos. NU applicants take the exam for free.
