Invitation to Seminar on Sustainable Urban Water Management Solutions

1 August, 2024, Thursday Webinar

Invitation to Seminar on Sustainable Urban Water Management Solutions

We are pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming seminar on the topic: “Results of TERESA project: Sustainable Urban Water Management solutions for Astana city,” presented by Dr. Catalin Stefan from the Dresden University of Technology (Dresden, Germany) and Dr.-Engineer Lothar Fuchs, CEO of the Institute for Technical and Scientific Hydrology (Hannover, Germany).

Seminar Details:

  • Date: 01.08.2024
  • Time: 11:00 (2 hours)
  • Venue: Block 6, Room 6.105
  • Address: 53, Kabanbay batyr Ave., Astana, 010000, Republic of Kazakhstan

Speakers:

Dr. Catalin Stefan

  • Head of the INOWAS research group of the Environmental Sciences Department at Dresden University of Technology, Co-chair of the Commission on Managed Aquifer Recharge of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), and a member of the Groundwater Solutions Initiative for Policy and Practice (GRIPP). Dr. Stefan's research focuses on the planning, evaluation, and optimization of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) using physical models and computer modeling.

Dr.-Engineer Lothar Fuchs

  • CEO of the Institute for Technical and Scientific Hydrology in Hannover (Germany). Dr. Fuchs has extensive experience in developing integrated solutions for rainwater and receiving water, as well as urban water cycle supplying. He has been specializing in the development of innovative software products and modern engineering services in the field of Urban Water Resources Management for over 30 years.

Seminar Annotation:

Integrated management of surface (runoff collection, flood protection) and groundwaters (replenishment measures, restoration for various types of use) are necessary for a comprehensive solution to flood problems and the growing need for potable water in Kazakhstan. The speakers will present the results of the TERESA project, where sustainable urban drainage solutions (SUDS) and managed aquifer recharge systems (MAR) were combined for urban water management for the capital of Kazakhstan. The overall goal was natural retention and infiltration of surface water to reduce the impact of urbanization and climate change on the local water cycle. Multifunctional solutions are aimed at reducing stormwater runoff, increasing groundwater recharge, and replenishing aquifers with water using SUDS and its secondary use.

Registration:
