Groundwater Modelling Training at NU on 24th October 2023

24 October, 2023, Tuesday Workshop

We are delighted to invite you to the training course on "Numerical Groundwater Modelling using the INOWAS Platform", which is scheduled to take place on:

Date: 24th October 2023; Time: 10:00 – 13:00; Venue: NU, Room 6522;

About the Training: The course is intended to offer an introduction to numerical groundwater modelling through the MODFLOW-2005, a renowned model developed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) for the simulation of groundwater flow. We'll be leveraging the INOWAS platform (www.inowas.com), which is a suite of online tools tailored for groundwater modelling, inclusive of applications grounded on the MODFLOW code. The curriculum is divided into five segments: a) Introduction and course objectives. b) Theoretical foundation on MODFLOW. c) Introduction to the INOWAS platform and its chief features. d) A collaborative exercise using a groundwater flow model from Astana. e) Wrap-up and discussion.

Registration: Given the limited seats, we urge you to register in advance by following this link.

Requirements: For an active engagement in the training, please ensure you bring your own laptop. Accessing the INOWAS platform necessitates a steady internet connection, with Google Chrome as the recommended browser. While some knowledge on groundwater flow principles would be advantageous, it's not compulsory. We are excited to announce that participants will be awarded a certificate upon successful completion of this course.

Speakers: Dr. Jana Sallwey & Dr. Catalin Stefan (Technische Universität Dresden, Germany)

Host: Dr. Marzhan Baigaliyeva, NU, Kazakhstan.

Acknowledgement: This training course is an initiative of the German–Kazakhstan project TERESA, themed "Urban water management: German expertise for Kazakh cities". The project is graciously funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under grant no. 02WCL1552A. You can gather more details about the project here.

We look forward to your participation and hope this session proves to be an enriching experience for you.
