Invitation to Seminar on Sustainable Urban Water Management Solutions
We are pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming seminar on the topic: “Results of TERESA project: Sustainable Urban Water Management solutions for Astana city,” presented by Dr. Catalin Stefan from the Dresden University of Technology (Dresden, Germany) and Dr.-Engineer Lothar Fuchs, CEO of the Institute for Technical and Scientific Hydrology (Hannover, Germany).
Seminar Details:
Speakers:
Dr. Catalin Stefan
Dr.-Engineer Lothar Fuchs
Seminar Annotation:
Integrated management of surface (runoff collection, flood protection) and groundwaters (replenishment measures, restoration for various types of use) are necessary for a comprehensive solution to flood problems and the growing need for potable water in Kazakhstan. The speakers will present the results of the TERESA project, where sustainable urban drainage solutions (SUDS) and managed aquifer recharge systems (MAR) were combined for urban water management for the capital of Kazakhstan. The overall goal was natural retention and infiltration of surface water to reduce the impact of urbanization and climate change on the local water cycle. Multifunctional solutions are aimed at reducing stormwater runoff, increasing groundwater recharge, and replenishing aquifers with water using SUDS and its secondary use.
