International Networks

The International Association of Universities (IAU) is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher-education institutions, founded in 1950.

Mission

The activities of IAU are aimed at promoting collaboration among its members to pursue the creation, dissemination and application of knowledge, to advocate joint learning and action, and to act as a forum for innovation, analysis and monitoring of the development of higher education.

Membership

The Association unites 600 universities and organizations from more than 120 countries. As a global network, IAU has member institutions on every continent with the following distribution:

  • Europe: 40%
  • Asia and Pacific: 24%
  • Middle East: 13%
  • Africa: 11%
  • North America: 7%
  • Latin America and Caribbean: 5%

NU joined IAU in 2015. There are also three other Kazakhstani higher-education institutions in the association.
